Second Edition of the Annual Event
Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Bassiri Foundation is scheduled the second annual event.
This year the day will be dedicated fully to the theme proposed by artist Bizhan Bassiri: The Dilemma. How would the world continue to exist without being reflected in our eyes?, a question taken from Reflection 64 of the Manifesto of Magmatic Thought (1986-2023).
The Foundation’s aims include multi-disciplinarity and fostering dialogue between the arts and artists. The initiative, coordinated by Aldo Iori, includes a series of moments that will take place throughout the day: a panel discussion with speeches by artists, philosophers, astrophysicists and curators, individual interventions, readings, concerts with some premiere pieces as well as the presentation of new works inside the Caveau and in the spaces of the Foundation.
From 9.30 am the visitors will be welcomed to visit: in the Caveau, Bizhan Bassiri’s permanent work TAPESH – The Golden Reserve of Magmatic Thought (2017) enriched by the presence of two large works Il Nottambulo, presented at the Iranian National Museum in Tehran in 2019, and the audio installation Latitude X-1 by Francesco Antonioni.
The Studio will host the exhibition Michelangelo nello sguardo di Amendola, six photographs by Aurelio Amendola of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s works. Sculptures by Bizhan Bassiri, Shlomo Harush, Remo Salvadori, Sean Shanahan, in collaboration with Building (Milano), and an installation by Renato Ranaldi will be exhibited inside the Foundation.
At 10.30 am the day’s activities will begin and after the institutional greetings there will be a speech by Carla Tatò reading texts of Jannis Kounellis, followed by the concert VENI, CREATOR N°1 for solo clarinet by Marcello Panni, version with electronic elaboration by clarinettist Paolo Ravaglia.
The event continues with the panel discussion on the theme The Dilemma. How would the world continue to exist without being reflected in our eyes?, chaired by Bruno Corà, chairman of the Foundation’s Scientific Committee, and will be attended by Bizhan Bassiri, Ersilia Vaudo Scarpetta (astrophysicist Chief Diversity Officer at the European Space Centre, Paris), Stefano Velotti (philosopher, lecturer at La Sapienza, Rome) the poet Elio Pecora, Chiara Parisi (art historian and director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz), Guelfo Guelfi (ghostwriter and communicator, Florence), Roberto Lambarelli (art historian and founder of the magazine Arte e Critica, Rome) and Valeria Li Vigni (president of the Fondazione Sebastiano Tusa, Palermo).
After a light Lunch in the Foundation, Nicola Sani’s Concerto RAW for solo violin (2005) with Duccio Ceccanti on violin will be performed.
The panel discussion will end at 5 pm with pianist Erik Bertsch holding a concert with music by Karlheinz Stockhausen (Klavierstück IX), Luciano Berio (excerpts from Six Encores) and Marco Stroppa (excerpts from Miniature Estrose – First Book).
The event will be the subject of a short film directed by Andrea Cairoli.
Young curators and contemporary art critics will be present to guide the public through the works on display in the Foundation’s indoor and outdoor spaces.
